The cradle of Saxony
The jewel of the palaces along the River Elbe in Saxony, the Albrechtsburg Castle rises high above the town of Meissen and is the landmark of this internationally renowned porcelain. The very first ’Schloss‘ or castle built in Germany, the Albrechtsburg‘s master architect was Arnold von Westfalen, who combined daring and yet highly artistic features such as the famous curtain arch windows, the unique cellular vaulting and the outstanding spiral staircase or ´Grosser Wendelstein`. The result is a singular, outstandiong building, one of Germany‘s most beautiful late Gothic constructions.
